Published in Paris at the beginning of the seventeenth century by Ambroise and Jérôme Drouart, Civitas Veri sive Morum (The City of Truth; or, Ethics) presents an allegorical poem by Bartolomeo Del Bene (1515-1595) — a reworking of Aristotle’s Nichomachean Ethics — adorned with a series of wonderful emblem illustrations (most of which we feature below).
